Playing Millennium Blades tomorrow! Might as well start shuffling today... Edit for report: Shuffled for about 40 minutes. Then noticed I forgot to add the expension (green) packs. Shuffled for 20 minutes more. Was probably way overkill but it's tolerable while watching TV. ^^

I've yet to play Clank!, but I've very much looking forward to giving it a try. I love deckbuilders and push your luck games, so this sounds like an ideal mix

Just played our first non-introductiory game of Millennium Blades. I won by just 4 points - which is scary considering that the second player (the third one too, actually) forgot to turn in collections in round 1! In my deck's defense, it got disrupted SO hard in the third tournament. This was my mistake, the disruption deck was already been played in the 2nd tournament. Anyway, I was running an engine of Play effects that net instant RP but cost RP when they get flipped or scored. I would wrap up by playing a card that flips my whole tableau without triggering flip effects (and generating more RP!) and finally a card that scored points when it was the only face-up card during scoring. With zero disruption, it would have scored around 315 RP. Instead the Deques player stopped me from using any Play effects from the 3rd turn onwards! So I ended up getting reduced to 0 RP and scoring 30 for playing to the meta game.

Since learning to play Clank!, I have played a game that is not Clank! exactly one time, when we taught some friends how to play Betrayal at House on the Hill over drinks after a long Saturday.
Not counting playing Epic on the alpha Online client, where I was recently destroyed in a dark draft by head developer, MTG Hall of Famer, Avalanche Rider Darwin Kastle.
Gotta find something different to play. Trying to find time to play Pixel Tactics with one of the employees at the café, which isn't a new game for me, but I haven't played it in almost a year, so it's like-new.

I am jelly - I've been wanting to play Clank for ages now but not had chance. Likewise Roll Player. Still, UK Board Game Expo is next weekend so hopefully there'll be some copies floating around (they usually have a huge lending library and play space) and I'll be able to give it a shot. If any other Britishers are attending, I'll be going as a civilian on the Friday and tending demo tables on Saturday and Sunday I got to meet Star Slayer and Zejety last year at Essen (though funnily, they never met each other) so it'd be cool to meet a few more forum faces! On an utterly unrelated note, tabletop Blood Bowl Season 2 is now out - rostered stars, flaky wizards and new teams and players!

Played Castles of Mad King Ludwig for the first time yesterday. Setup appears to be a right pain, but the game was a good bit of fun. Not much (any) direct interaction, so fine for people who get tilted at you blowing up their stuff in other types of games. Nice easy puzzley play.

We played Magic Maze for the first time today and it was very fun. I bought iit after multiple reviewers recommended andfound myself a bit underwhelmed after the reading the rules. But the game ended up being very entertaining. It also helped that we played outside with great weather.
I also taught Millennium Blades to this group and we also had fun. I'm glad I've gone through the introductiory game with almost everybody now, though. Finally an opportunity to switch out the old sets from the store deck!

Played the dark souls board game for the second time this week, honestly I'm really impressed at how it replicates the essence of the mechanics of the video games. Especially the boss fights, which are suitably hard as nails. Deciding whether to use your hard earned souls to upgrade your character, or flip some random loot from the deck means all your decisions matter. We lucked out in having the knight get most of his top tier gear so he was taking ALL the hits for the party while my herald cowered in fear and tried not to die!! After clearing the first level and spawning the PREPARE TO DIE second assault, we managed to die a lot on route to Smaug and Orenstein and then only just lost because of an unfortunately timed burst attack from mega-orenstein. Really looking forward to trying (or should that be dying LOL) again. Apparently more characters and loot coming soon so that'll add some extra replay value to it aswell

I've been playing a lot of D&D 3.5 lately and it's been going quite well for me. Our DM told us that a certain encounter might result in everyone dying. I told her that I guarantee I will survive (I'm a wizard! LOOK AT MY BOOKS!).
Anywho, we begin this encounter and I shut around 8 people down with Glitterdust and Slow. Unfortunately, the stupid monk/rogue walks into danger and dies shortly after. I try to assist but the centaur druid makes some poor decisions to try and save the monk before he dies. Instead, they both die. I realize that I can't kill everything by myself so I cast Fly and book it out of town.
Long story short. I survived while the rest of my party died.

Ah Glitterdust, the most fabulous of spells!
Can you get a resurrect for your fallen friends or are they rolling up new characters for next time?
I'm thoroughly enjoying playing an unkillable bear totem barbarian in 5e, though my DM knows she has a poor will save. I foresee a lot of charm spells in her future :/

I foresee a lot of charm spells in her future :/ You should visit Barovia some time. :> We're playing through that campaign right now! She's so far being subjected to one charm attempt by He Who Must Not Be Named and she succeeded only by the grace of a bless spell. At level 3, she was basically holding the line and trying to slow down HWMNBN for two rounds, while the rest of the party evacuated civilians to safety. First he tried to charm her into standing aside, then he tried to ignore her and simply walk past (as you can imagine, being snubbed in combat is the worst offence you can give to a barbarian warrior), and when she managed to land her sentinel reaction he finally had to turn and deal with her directly (baby barbarian with AC15 vs Big Bad of the entire campaign). It was not pretty and if not for the fact that he was in a race to reach the rest of the party that would have been the end of her. Fortunately once he smacked her down he couldn't afford to waste time finishing her off and she stabilised. She is fun to play but absolutely guaranteed to die in this campaign - she walked into another Boss Battle singlehandedly because the rest of the party wanted to run an errand first. They all assumed she'd give up when it was obvious how outclassed she was and I had assumed they'd make a bluff or persuasion check to stop her, saying they would come back with reinforcements. But they didn't, so I was then locked into following through - walking up to the Big Boss front door, knocking on it and when opened, asking the person behind it "Are you kidnapping children?". When they answered with "Yes. Are you looking to buy?", she flipped her switch, kicked the person backwards and charged through the door. All the party saw was her disappear into the building, the door shut and then staccato lightning flashes at the windows, before silence. "Well, she's probably dead then, let's continue with our errand". For reference, our party leader is a massively self-centred tiefling with 18 charisma, who isn't what you'd call a team player. She pretty much just sees everyone else as her paid lackeys. They did eventually come back for her after finding out that she'd probably been kept alive for [PURPOSES] and, feeling the tiniest bit of guilt, they launched an utterly unsuccessful full scale assault on the building the next day. They gave up and fell back only to bump into her on the road back to town. My DM and I had run a week long email session during which she'd discovered that she could communicate with the rats in the building (totem warrior gets Speak with Animals, but I didn't want to simply have the ability ping into existence, so having her bound and caged with nothing but a rat for company for 24 hours was an ideal time for her to discover the skill). She got to save the kidnapped children, learn a new skill and do a mission impossible style escape from the building. Unfortunately she had to choose between the children and her armour and weaponry, but that seemed a small price to pay. Sadly DM fiat will only go so far and she's still just as rash, so it's only a matter of time. Especially given that her method of disarming traps is to walk forward and hope for the best...

You should visit Barovia some time. :> "Are you kidnapping children?". When they answered with "Yes. Are you looking to buy? [...]" One thing I can really appreciate about published adventures is that you can share stories about how things were run or played out completely differently in two groups. My players did not even know about the children but the paladin is quick to use divine sense on suspicious people.

Uuuuugh god damn my barbarian and her need to be honourable. In this session she finally gained a magical Greatsword +2 (she's heavy weapon focused) and armour and then put them back because taking them would have been dishonourable. So all her lovely greatweapon bonuses and tricks are going to waste because her only weapon that can hurt half the monsters we're fighting is a crappy spear

Plum, the others had to make new characters but it's all fine. Maybe now their characters will know how to stay alive! Also, I never really picked up on how useful glitterdust really is until fairly recently so I'm having a really excellent time with it. I can't wait to start making Walls of X and really giving people some mobility issues. Also, my DM is letting me go into Incantatrix so I'm going to be having all the fun with metamagic. I am also playing in the 5E CoS campaign and we are having an excellent time. Our DM is actually running it for another group simultaneously so he's been having a fun time with the different ways each of our parties handles encounters. I recently performed an action that made my character's alignment change from True Neutral to Neutral Good. SORPRESA. Turns out that I'm maybe not as power-driven as I thought. OOPS.

I want to put together a Savage Worlds campaign based on the aesthetic of the classic beat 'em ups (Final Fight, Streets of Rage)... I thought it'd be easier than working on my long-standing and coming-to-nothing fantasy campaign setting, but now I just find myself obsessively researching other things. The nerd shit never sotps.

Speaking of Curse of Strahd, we had a character death today! And I can already picture the same thing happening to Plum 's barbarian, so I won't give out any more warnings. Luckily, the party had the means (and with a little DM fiat, an opportunity) to revive him. This has now marked the second death in the party. The first one was the same guy, although admittedly, he didn't make any blunders the first time (lol, death house). This second death was very much on him though. Now that he's back on his feat though, he has learned his lesson. Just kidding! He is already plotting revenge.

We've also secured the promise of a single resurrection, should we need one, so I feel a bit more confident chucking her into almost certain death My group is frustrating at times though - they are mostly neutral characters, while my girl is all good, so they will often pass on helping random people unless it directly pertains to their goals. I suspect that Tyra is equally annoying to them though, since she'll drop whatever she's doing to help a puppy cross the road or whatever and they frequently have to get involved and bail her out. As befitting her 8 intelligence, she also gets bored easily and if the group spends too long debating the best way to lure out and ambush a villain, she'll just wander off and start the encounter without them. I love her though, she's like a big dumb friendly labrador that loves to fight Definitely a refreshing change after playing a super serious vengeance focused Paladin. Unfortunately being generally good natured and honourable means that she doesn't approve of looting and stealing, so she doesn't get much in the way of money or weaponry and the few amazing weapons she does get hold of, she'll generally do her best to find the rightful owner and hand it back. scymrian, Five Tribes is an excellent 2-player game. It's fun enough with more but slows down quite a lot. With two though it's a really interesting puzzle where you can set up some cool strategies and combos - she has excellent taste

Yeah. Even though we're playing in a GH campaign with one set of friends, we backed the 2nd edition to play with a different set of friends. It's that good! Assuming that you're into legacy style dungeon crawl games of course. If you don't like the core loop (enter dungeon, kill dudes, complete goal) then it probably won't convince you, but if you've ever enjoyed moving minis around a map and thumping monsters then it's amazing!
We finished Pandemic season one in December, having started in January and played it roughly in 'real time' according to the game calendar, which was pretty neat. It was an amazing experience and easily my favourite game of last year (GH is my current favourite of this year and I can't see that changing any time soon) and we're very much looking forward to season 2!

Uuuugh Gloomhaven is so good you guys! It's so good! I believe this even though I haven't played it. I watched two indepth reviews and it looked really cool. Sometimes, I get second thoughts about backing the darker, more uncomfortable, ten times more expensive version instead. Then again, at that point, it didn't knew much about Gloomhaven. Only saw a few pictures of it at Essen last year, but didn't investigate any further. And even though I sometimes do get second thoughts, I am still very much looking forward to that monstrosity of a game that is Kingdom Death Monster. One of my two boardgame groups is rather excited, too. ... Last weekend, we played Secret Hitler for the first time. General consensus was that it was a lot of fun. I also found out that my friends did not know my lying face. And they didn't find my hardly suppressed giggling suspicious at all! Well, I also did a lot of hardly suppressed giggling when I was a liberal, too. But that was all part of the ruse! We played three times. Two times with 5 player and once with 6 players. The only one who had played the game before said that it was much better with 7+ players, but it was still good. Though I believe that it will be even funnier if the fascists don't know who the secret hitler is.

I've heard very good things about KDM so I don't think you're going to be disappointed at all, and that goes in a completely different direction with deeper tactical combat and village growth - horses for courses. We missed out on the original kickstarter for GH as well, but being friends with the owners of an online game store has some perks!

I've heard good things about it, too. That's why I backed it. It's just that the 2nd edition Gloomhaven kickstarter was one of the few times where I remained steadfast and didn't jump in. And now I regret it a bit. Then again, it was the responsible way to act. After throwing so much money on a very time-intensive game, throwing another 100+ € at a game of a similar type that would just cut away from the time we would use to play the primary thing would have been silly. Sometimes, even I can be an adult.

See everyone migrated here, so I guess I'll post here more often. I got a friend and a cousin who both backed the Gloomhaven 2nd printing run, so I got options when it eventually arrives. So update on things in my boardgame life: Pandemic Legacy - Both teams are done, Red Team got Legendary, Blue Team got Average (they would've gotten the 2nd best ending if they destroyed the last military base.) It was neat to compare the two maps in the end. Now we wait for Team Black and Team Yellow when it comes to Season 2. Risk Legacy - We're still working on it. Made difficult since I recently moved and one of the guys has no way to travel to my current location. Last game, I almost singleminded attempt to conquer all the islands in the world I want a port connected from Iceland to Eastern Australia, cause lolz , only for someone else to take advantage and just win. That said, while looking up strats to get the 7 islands, ended up spoiling myself... About the aliens Dark Souls the boardgame - I am surprised how well this translated from the videogame. As far as my group went, we had a knight with dual wield shields, a herald with a lightning gem halberd, which btw we found magic dmg to be rather OP (magic damage blue die on a crossbow hollow, why even bother to roll?) and I as the Assassin with 3 dodge dice (which was fun when I had to dodge the Winged Knight 3x attack whirlwind) I moved so we didn't get to finish the campaign against the Dancer. Spyfall 2 and Codenames - coincidentally my friend and I had these brought in on the same day. Both were liked for different reasons. Also feel like couples should be banned for Codenames. Love Letter Premium Edition - my original copy of Love Letter fell out of my backpack, so I was like, well, if I'm gonna replace my copy, go all fancy. Played it once, we had an amusing win at the end where one of my players won with the Constable by on purposely suiciding themselves with the Dowager Queen (opposite power of the Baron.) Bloodborne vs Cutthroat Caverns - Still working out the day when I get the latter played Plum . Based on my impressions of the rules though, CC feels more like Cosmic Encounters when it comes to damage numbers where BB is like Yomi. Samurai Spirits - Basically The Seven Samurai the boardgame. The Boxart is hilariously terrible. We haven't won a game yet. Gameplay wise, its a bit like each samurai plays Blackjack with the bandits to hold them off, while cooperating using powers to try to mitigate the damage. Feel we need a game of actual 7 samurai to get ALL THE OPTIONS! Good bye to the Villains - coincidentally the week after met with another friend who introduced me to this ninjas vs Samurai cardgame. My friend told me he has never won a game, and my first game I happen to be lucky enough to win. The last game we played we play horribly where we had no information about our samurai targets, and ultimately my target revealed to have an escape route (+100 HP, which for reference, most might have 10-30.) Room 25: Escape Room - So had a b-day party where we did an actual Escape Room (we won! Also looking it up now, I found out they went out of business recently... ) then finished the night with this abstract take on it. So basically its Room 25, but you gather clue cards from 8 room tiles (that transform into random tiles when you leave.) Work out the clues, figuring out a 3-4 number/letter combination, use a decoder on a sheet and find out whether you're right. Oh and in addition to still having to have to play Room-25 and escape that way. My group enjoyed it, though the lack of suspicion mode does have one of my players getting bored and just pushing people cause he had nothing better to do, lol. Not-Kickstarter Backed - Charterstone. The complete mystery of it is probably why I pre-ordered it, also that James Stegmaier (Scythe) was full on never doing crowdfunding for this so he won me over. Also thought it was cute enough in theme to attract the less hardcore members of my gaming groups. The rulebook is starting to emerge now. Otherwise as far as I know about this game, it is a Legacy game (he was inspired by Risk Legacy) that is sort of based similiarly on Lords of Waterdeep (which I have no played.) Kickstarters I have enough willpower to resist - Zombicide: Green Horde and Deception: Undercover Allies. I can wait for those to actually be released. Didn't have the willpower to resist - Bought a copy of Arkham Horror the LCG. Time to explore that business model. Now that I moved, my new local friends want me to get into Star Wars Armada. I ain't THAT irresponsible with my money *shifty eyes* EDIT And one more thing, my group finished the campaign of Seafall Twist, theres a postgame scenario We had our up and downs. Will say this much, the plot twists were cool when they get revealed. Also recommendation for anyone daring to start their own camapign, 3 players is quite relaxing in comparison to 5. Less tripping over each other.

I've now traded away Bloodborne (for the Bioshock boardgame!) - it was fun enough, but the randomness of the enemy damage made it difficult to really plan too far ahead. Because damage could easily spike, we found that people were withdrawing early and playing safe, which also meant that the weapons targetting your 'allies' weren't as effective. This might be more my groups reticence in push-your-luck games though - I think in other groups it would have been fine.
Looove Samurai Spirit but the only time I've ever won on normal was when I was playing four characters by myself and had perfectly set the characters and player-order to absolutely maximise their abilities, and even then it was a close call. Such a brutal game but I love it!
Sadly my Straturday Night group has fizzled a bit of late, so I've not been getting in the big chunky strategy games. We did get a chance to play Cthulhu Wars with the new factions recently, which was a blast (though it'll be a while before I decide whether I actually like them more than my beloved Black Goat). Need to get Cry Havoc back to the table soon though, and still waiting on a chance to get Starcraft Brood Wars out. Damn people and their interesting lives eating into my gaming time!
