They were called Teenage Mutant Hero Turtles here, because ninjas are assassins and we can't have our children watch a cartoon where the protagonists are related to professional murderers. (Though in looking it up, it seems that this censorship actually originated in the UK and was only copied by Germany?) I wasn't a particularly big TMNT fan, but the main thing I remember about them was that my brother told me the show was called Karate Turtles and I believed that for years. I would only ever see it if he was watching and somehow managed to miss the title screen for so long that if someone actually did call it Teenage Mutant Hero/Ninja Turtles, I thought they were joking. Btw imho Donatello ftw obv lol

Fun fact: In the mid-80s to late 90s, Germany was hit by a "media violence is corrupting our children" scare, leading to a lot of censorship especially in videogames. It also let to a different title for the turtles: They were called Teenage Mutant Hero Turtles here, because ninjas are assassins and we can't have our children watch a cartoon where the protagonists are related to professional murderers. (Though in looking it up, it seems that this censorship actually originated in the UK and was only copied by Germany?) For similar reasons, Mitsurugi in Soul Calibur was replaced with Arthur, a white European guy with an eyepatch. They couldn't have samurai in the game for some reasons, so they turned him into a "knight" in name, except they also left all his Japanese-style armor and his katanas looking exactly the same. None of this made any sense whatsoever.

lol @ Samurai Arthur Plum, that was a pretty good practical joke your brother pulled there. Jude, I have to admit: I never thought much about your avatar until yesterday.

I don't understand how a samurai is censor worthy but a pirate isn't too violent.

I don't understand how a samurai is censor worthy but a pirate isn't too violent. Well, looking at the wiki, its mostly for Korea, which has a lot of bad blood history with Japan. That said, its still weird given he still has Samurai equipment, seems like his backstory is inspired by William Adams. Turtles Forever, iirc, my friend who is a massive Turtles fan (he's watched every show, and collected Turtles comics), was also when Mirage comics sold the rights to Nickelodeon. So that movie was the last time when it was under Mirage, which is why the climax is with the original comic book Turtles, and the ending being a cameo of the creators themselves. That said, forget which post-Forever tmnt show it was, but my friend was super pleased when one of the intros had the turtles posed like their first comic book cover appearance, and for him sold him on "these new owners know and respect the source material." And speaking of TMNT, only learned yesterday they're showing up in Injustice 2. Now that's weird.

Hm, only two episodes? I suppose I wait a bit longer until there is more to watch at once.
I am currently making my way through the third and fourth season of Voltron: Legendary Defender. (Though it is more like the third season split into two halves.) It's ok. I think I mostly enjoy it because the art style, character design and humor reminds me of The Legend of Korra. (Same studio.)

For those who haven't seen been following the SDCC panel: There's a new Steven Universe episode out. It has a lot of visual spoilers that are great for thumbnails, so beware if you're on Youtube and haven't watched it yet.
Bigger news: A (TV) movie has been announced! I don't think they gave a release date, but from the phrasing of several tweets, I got the impression that production is (mostly) finished.
