So I remembered the other day about a game called Microscope that a friend of mine discovered that I never got to play as much as I wanted to. Now I live in a different state but rather than worry I remembered that I thought that it would be easy to adapt to a forum and had thought about trying that on the old forums but never got around to it. So click my link and check it out. The rules are pretty simple (and will actually be made even more simple for forum play by removing an option that would require lost of low content posts and slow the game down too much) and if people are interested in playing I'll be buying the pdf and providing rules explanations. I figure I'll set up a google doc to serve as the "play space" and keep everything organized. Realizing that the site doesn't really explain the gameplay too much I'll give you a quick run down. This is a group story telling game but you don't tell the story in chronological order (unless you really want to I guess) but rather start with the beginning and end of a timeline and take turns adding things into the middle. You slowly flesh out the timeline with Periods, Events within those Periods and Scenes within those Events. Personally I think it's most comparable to doing group world building where you only focus on the history of the world. Anywho, tell me if you want to play this on here and if we have a handful of players I'll set things up to start playing!

I've looked into Microscope before! I've seen other folks it to create a campaign setting for a more traditional roleplaying system, which is the use that most intrigues me, but I've never played with it myself and been curious. I voted "perhaps" but mostly only because I'm afraid of committing I'm really more of a "strong probably," something like 95%

Ok, so I got distracted yesterday and didn't buy the pdf and make a thread but here is my plan. The game functions in rounds in which one player selects the "focus" of the round and then every adds things that are related to that topic. At the end of the round there is a "legacy" phase in which something from that round is declared a legacy and then a legacy gets an additional piece of history added to it. Point of saying all that, people who are slightly interested can drop in and out of the game between rounds! For reals, I bought the pdf while typing this and I'll have a thread up sometime tomorrow so we can discuss the "Big Picture" (a rough summary of what our game of microscope is covering) Or actually, perhaps start discussing that here for now or at least thinking about it. Example "Big Pictures" from the book - An Ancient Empire Rise and Falls
- Cavemen at the Dawn of Time Found the First Civilization
- Mankind Leaves the Sick Earth Behind and Spreads Out to the Stars
These are vague summaries that specifically have little to no details in them, just an indication of the direction we'll be going. Everyone also gets a chance to Ban/Allow things in another part of the setup. So if someone doesn't want something like timetravel they can ban it and if another player specifically wants dinosaurs to be a part of the game they can allow it. Everyone needs to remember that in this game you have no control of something you make after you make it but do try not to upset each other and the first place we need to keep communication strong is the Ban/Allow step. If you really don't like a ban that someone proposes voice that thought upfront. Also be willing to listen to someone when they voice these thoughts but again, everyone is equally in charge here so no one has to change their mind about something they choose. Also, if you're on the fence about joining in or will possibly join for some rounds but not all the rounds you can still participate in the initial setup if you want. Though once we start with the bans/allows people can't hop into the creation (because everyone gets an equal chance to ban/allow things)

I'm very much in. I'll at least participate in setup and then I'll try to be around for rounds as often as I can.
