[ Cry. I cry. A lot. And also make progress toward leveling up. But mostly cry.] Hadrian brushes off the ash and embers from his armor and takes stock. His wounds are light, and he feels reasonably well. Willa is looking significantly less hale, however. "Ethar," he murmurs as he lays his hands on Willa's shoulders, "heal the wounds of this worthy companion." (Lay on Hands.) [Now, if I don't fail this, and Willa can muster a healing tune, we'll be Not Yet Dead.] ---

# of Snake-eyes = 1 # of Boxcars = 4Roll + CHA = 3 + 4 + 2 = 9Healing = d8 = 2Willa, you feel some of the burns magically revert, covered with soft, healthy new skin. Hadrian, you feel slightly weaker and drained, your muscles sore and aching. You can tell that part of your life-force has left you in the process.

"My thanks both to you and to Ethar, Hadrian. I shall be sure to return the favour, but I think we had better see that we don't get trapped by this fire!"
Having said that, Willa thinks of self-preservation (she is neither bound by oaths to protect the weak, nor considers Hadrian weak enough to need protection). Taking a deep breath and a running jump, she dashes through the flames in the doorway to the corridor.
(Defy Danger, DEX)

[ snoc I think that charging through the flames without taking damage should probably fall under CON instead. What do you think of that?]

[ I suppose it depends on how high they've got at this point. A foot or two of flames could be jumped over, but much higher than that would involve actually dealing with the damage. Is there a window or other exit that might offer a safer escape?]

Is there a window or other exit that might offer a safer escape?] [The fire is from an alchemical mixture that is pseudo-magical in nature, thus resulting in instant large flames. There are windows, but thet are covered in glass panes (and cannot be opened); as seen by the wolves, going through them would be at least as dangerous as the fire.] [You and Hadrian might consider aiding each other through an escape attempt through the flames. If you do so one at a time (Hadrian aids, you go, you aid, Hadrian goes), that might give you the edge you need.]

[..an alternative idea comes to mind...] "Hadrian, quick! Use your shield to block the flames in the doorway and get us out of here!"
(I suppose this could be Defy Danger with INT? For me or Hadrian?)

The chamber flashes with eerie orange light as the large-nosed gnome bursts through the doorway.
Ahmvvar: There!
Without a second thought, Ahmvvar hefts the bow-bolt from his satchel and deftly launches it by hand toward the tiny assailant's feet and legs in an attempt to trip him or injure his lower body enough to slow him down and catch him.
(Volley, and if it fails horribly please use the reroll this time)

[ snoc I think this would still use CON. However... Hadrian might consider using the Defend action (which also uses CON) to try and soak the damage for the both of you. If he sort of wrapped you in his arms and jumped through, it's likely he could reduce the damage to 0, or nearly so.]

The thrown bolt pierces straight through the Gnome's upper leg, causing him to scream out only briefly before going into shock.

[ Is it plausible that we have enough time to break the glass in a window, and then clear the shards, before the fire would spread that far?]

[ Is it plausible that we have enough time to break the glass in a window, and then clear the shards, before the fire would spread that far?] [Yes, that seems reasonable. I don't think you even need a roll for that, actually. It will take a little while, though, and you can plausibly make it faster with a DEX roll maybe.]

(Have you seen Hadrian's Dex? No, thanks.)
Hadrian smashes out the nearest window with the hild of his sword, then waves to Willa. "This way!" He uses quick swipes of his vambraces to clear the shards from the frame, then climbs out.

[Okay I looked back through SPH chat and the only time I found Caph link the blademaster character sheet was from mid September. This is the link I have. Some of the stuff in it is not up to date though, like the base class damage. I updated my post on page 2 to link to it. Maybe SPH could put the link on the page one post with all of the character sheets?]

Willa follows Hadrian out of the window, and looks around. "Maybe we should go back in and help the others? Although if the building's on fire maybe it's best not to. We still don't know how many Gnomes or whatever else there could be in there though. What do you think, Hadrian?"

[ I'll get a response in shortly. I'm just really enjoying that we JUST got to Town and we're already well on the way to burning down the first building we entered.]

[ We didn't start the fire. It was always burning, since the world's been turning.]
"I think it would be ill-mannered of us to abandon our companions to a burning building." He leans back in the window to bellow, "If you can hear me, Willa and I will circle back toward the entrance!" Then he puts his left side to the building and begins following the wall.
(If I understand this correctly, it'll actually take us to the window of the room Garm fought the wolves in, shortly.)

She said she also went out the window.) (Oh, BTW, guys, I think we should stop using Square Brackets. I've run into some issues where it thinks those are some sort of tags. I've lost a bunch of text on several occasions because it started with the letter I, and it just converted it into an empty italic block instead. Let's switch to parentheses.)

(I'm no longer sure where my character is but I assume he's in direct danger?) (You're still in the hallway that people are going in and out of rooms in. And you're not in any imminent danger, no. The one room is on fire, preventing you from going into it easily, but it's not hindering you in any other way yet.)

(I think Lezard is with Garm and Ahmvvar)
As the injured gnome collapses with a shriek and clutches his maimed leg, Ahmvvar closes the gap with swift strides.
He raises the butt if his spear in the small creature's direction, ready to thwak him if he tries anything.
Ahmvvar: We meant no harm. You wee folk brought this on yourselves with your violence.
Now. What. is. going. on. here?
> Parlay (and if Garm and or Lezard assist me that would be awesome)

When I said "went into shock", I didn't mean that he was shocked; I meant, literally, in a coma, dying and as good as dead. Mechanically he is dead, I was just trying to describe it as taking a few seconds more than absolutely instant. You can no longer negotiate with this one.)

(we can roll with this)
Ahmvvar violently shakes the gnome
Ahmvvar: Answer me you vile thing! I swear it by The Dawn, I -- i... oh he's dead.

{I'll uh aid Ahmvvar in searching for loot if I'm in a position to do so... assuming this is considered a valid action...}
Lezard considers himself above getting his hands dirty with petty looting... but not above critiquing Ahmvvar's looting style!
"No, no, no! Open the drawers from bottom to top, not top to bottom!"
^Something along the lines of that, but you know, applicable to the current situation.

> Discern
> What here is useful or valuable to me? > Who’s really in control here? > What here is not what it appears to be?
(Lezard Assist?)
While Lezard eagerly watches, Ahmvvar examines the tiny man's corpse to see if his clothes have any hidden pockets or if he had been carrying any useful equipment. He also gets a good close look at the gnome's body and disfigurements.
Ahmvvar: Clues... treasures... snacks... anything ...?
