-Ahmvvar grips the tiny hollow gourd that holds the antitoxin syrup and watches the capering mystic attempt to divert the beast.
Ahmvvar (internal monologue): Though Lezard's bizzare fancies often prove true, they seem near as likely to backfire horribly and yet Lezard always escapes these mishaps relatively unscathed. This scheme may leave nothing of our party but scattered decaying bear shit.
Ahmvvar: Sorry wizard! I'll not be playing nor played in your games this day. I will however deal with this one in the way of the ancestors.
-Though this particular corruption is unfamiliar, Ahmvvar's people are no strangers to predators gone rabid or mad. They put down such creatures by destroying the brain.
-Ahmvvar deftly pockets the antitoxin and then crouches low and twists his body, his spear's edge nearly brushing against the dense packed clay of the path. With a muted grunt he launches himself toward the beast, swinging the spear in a sweeping upward arch aiming to catch the bear under the jaw and split the skull.

[If Ahmvvar's attack succeeds or partially succeeds, Hadrian will attempt to make a follow-up attack - I'll write the fluff for it when it happens.]

[It occurs to me that although I intended to give Ahmvvar an Antitoxin, I didn't reiterate that in my post and thus might not have technically done it. If possible I'd still like one Antitoxin transferred from Lezard to Ahmvvar]

Roll + DEX = 2 + 2 + 2 = 6 Ahmvvar, as you strike upward at the bear's face, you are taken aback by a sudden complication. The creature attempts to counter the strike by grabbing the upper section of the shaft in its claws, and it is successful with the aid of bizarre, writhing, vine-line tentacles that slither forth from its forearms! The disturbing, vegetative appendages wrap fully around the spear's radius several times, stopping the strike in its tracks and pinning your weapon; then, the vines start growing rapidly, slithering their way along the weapon's length toward you. Adventurers, now what will you do?[Congrats to Hamvvar for the first XP of the campaign!]

"I've never seen a bear do that before..."
Garm steps forward, dragging the enormous greatsword behind him with one hand. As he reaches the bear's flank, he shifts his grip on the sword. Placing his second hand on the hilt, he heaves weapon over his shoulder. Using a combination of gravity, momentum, and his full strength, Garm aims a deadly slice down onto the thing's neck.

Roll + STR = 1 + 5 + 2 = 8Damage = d8 + 2 - armor = 3 + 2 - 2 = 3Garm, you cleave into the bear's shoulder, opening a lengthy gash. For all the creature's oddities, it at least seems to bleed normally enough. [The bear has taken 6 damage total so far. It has reached 50% health.] The beast recoils from the force of the huge weapon, releasing its grip on Ahmvvar's spear. In the same moment, however, it unleashes a new attack toward you, Garm - whether deliberately or as a reflex, you cannot be certain - causing a thick cloud of bright orange spores to explode from the mushrooms near its head and neck. Before you can react, you've inhaled some of the foul particles, causing you to choke and stagger. Almost immediately, you feel your mind grow hazy and your concentration falter. [You are afflicted by a Poison that causes Confusion (debility to Wisdom). It can be cured either by curing the poison or the debility (the former generally being easier).] Lezard, you suddenly feel very conscious of the mushrooms you've positioned your face right next to.

[Is the poison close enough to a disease that Hadrian can sure it with Lay Hands?]
Hadrian lunges forward as soon as the bear pivots to face Garm. He comes in low, keeping his shield up, and hacks at the bear's legs with short, vicious slashes.

[Based on my interpretation of the rules, I think Poisons and Diseases are meant to be separate, just like in D&D.] Roll + STR = 6 + 6 + 1 = 13!Damage = d10 + 1 - armor = 8 + 1 - 2 = 7[I'm a bit impressed by the ability of this team to roll double sixes.] Hadrian, each slash expertly cuts deep into the bear's legs, quickly causing them to buckle and sending the beast flopped to the ground on its side. With a final slice, you finish it off. Even in death, its face maintains the look of a maddened but confused animal, appearing to have never even realized its own demise.
Adventurers, you now stand before a bleeding bear carcass. What do you do?

[Well, that's good to know, but Hadrian can't possibly know unless he tries.]
Hadrian stands over the fallen bear for a moment, until he is satisfied that it has stopped moving. Trusting Ahmvvar to free his weapon himself, Hadrian hurries to Garm's side. "Are you alright?"

[OK, I'll try to Parley with Gram. My promise will be curing him, my 7-9 condition will be that I actually help him cure his poison (giving him an antitoxin) while my 10+ will be that I wait until after he's helped me to tell him he need simply request the antitoxin I've given to Ahmvvar, otherwise on failure I'll Discern Realities without assistance.]
Lezard adjusts his glasses, "Careful!" he exclaims, "Even corpses could be dangerous..." "Gram, I can cure your affliction if you would just assist me in investigating that creature first" Lezard smiles "Your previous exposure makes you the obvious candidate..." Lezard's grin grows as he thinks to himself "Either way I can use Gram as a guinea pig for my theory"
{Parley, roll+Cha(0), 7-9 give Gram an Antitoxin}
On 10+: Gram assists Lezard, allowing him to accurately examine the corpse from a safe distance, Lezard rewards him by telling him to use the Antitoxin he'd given to Ahmvvar. {Aid, +1 Forward} {Discern Reality, Roll+Wis(1)+1 Forward}
On 7-9: Gram demands the antitoxin upfront, Lezard gleefully parts with it although certainly it pains him to do so. Lezard requests that he wait until after he helps him investigate the corpse from a safe distance before using the Antitoxin. {Aid, -1 Antitoxin, +1 Forward} {Discern Reality, Roll+Wis(1)+1 Forward}
On 6- or Banewlf is uninterested: Lezard huffs "No matter, I'll investigate by myself." Building on his previous observations he investigates the corpse from a safe distance as he recalls his previous thoughts about the fauna. {+1 Forward, acting on the answer to Discern Reality, What happened here recently?} {Discern Reality, Roll+Wis(1)+1 Forward}
Regardless of the method used: {7-9 What here is useful or valuable to me?} {10+ What is about to happen?} {10+ What should I be on the lookout for?}

-Ahmvvar wrenches his spear from the tangle of tentacles and examines the blade. A couple small fibrous tendrils still latch the the edge, twitching silently. After giving the spear a couple shakes to dislodge them, he approaches the others to listen while they examine the corpse.

Reeling from the cloud of spores, Garm falls to one knee coughing and sputtering. A loud, overpowering hum paralyzes his senses and prevents him from hearing the words of his companions clearly or properly registering the death of the bear. Unable to think over the damned sound, Garm latches on to the primal sense of danger he was feeling from the threat, as well as the surge of adrenaline that followed, and forces himself to stand. The Blademaster lets loose a loud battlecry and rushes forward. With both his vision and mind blurred, Garm relies on his warrior instincts to guide him as he swings wildly at the first figure he comes to. ( Not clear if this has any mechanical impact or if this is purely a roleplay scenario)

Seeing her old adventuring companion charging towards their party with sword raised, Willa remembers when this happened before, in the darkness of some caves chasing goblins and the treasure they'd stolen from nearby towns and villages. That time, the low ceiling had interrupted the fearsome swing before it could do any damage. Thinking quickly, she pulls her mandolin out and improvises a tune, using all her art to project her voice through the haze of confusion surrounding the Blademaster.
Brave Garm the Blademaster! The foe we faced has been erased From this cursed wood, and now we should Take stock, not run amok. Brave Garm the Blademaster!

Brave Garm the Blademaster! {Arcane Art to clear Garm's head of confusion, roll+cha} [It doesn't quite fit the exact rules, but I'll say it's good enough for a temporary solution.] Roll + CHA = 6 + 4 + 2 = 12!The power of the musical magic soothes Garm's senses. For all its intangibility, the melody and lyrics suddenly seem to be the most real thing in existence, anchoring the mind. Garm's confusion has been momentarily suppressed, allowing time to find a more permanent cure.

Garm skids to a halt just in front of Hadrian, lowering his sword slowly. Using his newfound clarity of mind, he surveys the situation and realizes what actually happened.
"Those spores... did something to me. Willa's music is crowding out the hum, but it's starting to get louder again. It's so loud, I can't think straight!"

That is something that only applies once, differentiating it from "+1 Ongoing". Aside from that, it is a little silly to use a Forward bonus from a check on the same type of check again, at least realizing that it is limited to a single use.] [Do you still want to do this (without the extra +1)?] [Also, what are your new Discern Reality questions?]

Ah thought I was able to use it once per question. I'll do it anyway! Trying to notice if there's anything useful about the corpse, ideally from a safe distance.
{7-9 What here is useful or valuable to me?} {10+ What is about to happen?} {10+ What should I be on the lookout for?}
Also after that, unless something happens to prevent me from doing so: {Cast Spell, Unseen Servant, 7-9 lose spell}
(Also me doing these things probably doesn't stop other characters from doing their own things, if you got things to do, do those things!)

Roll + WIS = 2 + 6 + 1 = 9What here is useful or valuable to me?Not much.As exotic and interesting as the surroundings are, with its brightly-colored mushrooms and vine-shooting ursae, you should avoid letting your curiosity get the better of you. These are deadly traps, clearly of intelligent design, with a sole purpose of murdering fools who stray too close to them. Any attempts to collect or study these specimens for research or profit will likely prove far more fatal than they are worth. Roll + INT = 6 + 1 + 2 = 9Lezard, the spell is cast and expended, though due to its invisible nature, only you are thus far aware of the loyal presence hovering behind you.

Willa takes stock of the situation, noticing the wizard muttering something to himself and Garm looking rather dazed and out of it. There are still a few motes of dusty spores hanging in the stillness of the forest that somehow seems to have more than a natural touch of twilight about it, despite the day being supposedly near its peak. The sound of her song reverberated even less than one would normally expect in a forest, and she suspects that there is nothing natural about that. The party made a lot of noise fighting the bear, or whatever had taken it over, and she realises that perhaps they have drawn the attention of something else, something more intelligent, malignant and able to formulate a plan to repel invaders of its domain.
"Friends, we have made a good start in our quest to discover what happened here, but we cannot stop now! We must press on, both to continue our progress and in case anything else comes for us or to scavenge the remains of that bear. Our Blademaster is a little dazed, but I'm sure he still remembers how to swing his sword, should the need arise."

-Ahmvvar approaches Garm and places a calm hand on his shoulder.
Ahmvvar(handing Garm the antitoxin): Stay steady friend Garm. This should quiet the mushroom's intoxication. That said, should the spores show you visions: don't fight it or try to control it, many tribes consider mushrooms an important teacher.
-Ahmvvar smiles glumly and starts back along the trail.
Ahmvvar: Assuming they don't kill you dead, that is. Or turn you into some drooling revenant! Ha ha ...

[ banewlf, DW confusion is a slight mental impairment, not JRPG-style friend/foe identification failure ] Hadrian clears his throat meaningfully. "We should move quickly. The force that guided this bear to attack us was intelligent and malicious, and where there was one bear, there could be more. It is not implausible that larger quantities of wildlife could be so infected, and while we dispatched a single bear with relative ease, could we do the same against an entire family? Or perhaps a herd of deer? We have not sufficient anti-toxins to cleanse many wounds. We should retreat and return better-prepared, or advance swiftly and find more defensible ground before night falls. I say we advance. What say you?"

Garm, it takes only a few short moments for the concoction to take effect, eradicating the hindrance to your senses. The miracles of modern medicine! Adventurers, if you wish to proceed onward through the remainder of the Cursed Forest, you will need to Undertake a Perilous Journey. You should select three of you to perform the necessary tasks of Scout, Trailblazer, and Quartermaster, so that you can watch for further enemies, find a timely path, and manage your resources respectively. [The trip through the remainder of the forest will be a par of few hours - this could be more or less depending on the tracking skills of the Trailblazer. The base amount of rations will be 3 total between the 5 of you (it's up to you to figure out from whose inventory they get subtracted from), which may be more or less depending on the roll of the Quartermaster. There may be either no further combat, or one additional random encounter, depending on the roll by the Scout. All of the rolls use WIS. Decide among yourselves who does what.]

[ Out of character, this is not a complex decision. Willa is the only character with a below-0 WIS modifier, and Lezard is the only character with an above-0 one.]
